Off Camera Flash, Prism Photography and the Journey so Far
When I decided to make the leap of faith and set up a wedding photography business I understood that in the early days I had to offer a high quality product at a really competitive price.
As a first year wedding photographer Invested a small fortune in cameras, lenses and what really made me want to cry is the £300 Cannon flash. The next task was to find out about the market and see all of the other amazing wedding photographers to understand what they do and how they get those all amazing images which set them apart from the crowd.
One of the most pertinent techniques used by the high end photographers was Off Camera Flash. The ability to capture that killer image whilst triggering a light somewhere else in the room. I still find this a bit daunting but at the time I realised that i had an awful lot to learn about this game if I wanted to one day be amongst the Jonny Drapers and Damien Brandon’s of the industry. At this point I learned about flash triggers and the world of Pocket Wizards. To date, I own three of them and they amaze me with their power to create stunning images. As a result of further research I came across the idea of shooting through scientific prisms, at which point I was truly amazed and inspired. When I started shooting weddings for
James Wray Weddings I was instantly drawn to the sense of occasion and privileged to be sharing in so many peoples weddings. However, what amazes me further is the scope for creativity using techniques such as off camera flash and prisms.
When I receive emails from couples I am always keen to stress that I am a creative wedding photographer and will produce a genuine bespoke product composed using their wedding. All of the couples I’ve met in the last five months or so all have similar ideas about how they want their wedding to be captured and the reoccurring theme is “Natural”. Therefore I ensure that at all my wedding consultations I suggest “Natural and Creative” to which all of our 16 couples of 2016 responded positively.
So at this point, on the eve of a very busy summer for drewfindlayphotography.com we are genuinely excited about the prospect of photographing so many weddings and creating so many killer images that will lay the foundations for the birth of a successful and creative business, which offers an excellent product. In addition to an approach which is understands the importance of your wedding day whilst being respectful of your desire for it to be photographed with the care and attention that matches your efforts to plan this special day.
At present we still have some dates for Summer 2016 and we are also taking bookings for 2017.
